Entertaiment is an activity that holds an audience’s attention and interest. It may be light-hearted, as in comedy or satire, or serious, as in religious festivals and ceremonies or sports events. It can be intimate, as in a performance for a small group or an individual who watches a show on television; it can involve social interaction (through play and child rearing); it can develop physical skills (through dance, music and sports). Entertaiment can also inspire other forms of entertainment – Scheherazade, the story from the professional storytelling tradition, was used to create an orchestral work by Rimsky-Korsakov, a film by Pasolini and an innovative video game.
