What Is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is a general term for any activity that keeps the attention and interest of an audience, from play or drama to games of chance or escapist fiction. It can also include activities that were once part of practical work or war but now are regarded as spectator sports or cultural events, such as ceremonial dancing or religious festivals. Some entertainments have a serious purpose, such as satire or other forms of social criticism. The etymology of the word suggests the importance of holding and entertaining ideas in one’s mind.
